La línea propia del grupo investiga la búsqueda de biomarcadores (séricos, urinarios y de imagen) de diagnóstico precoz y progresión de la enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) y cardiovascular en el paciente con diabetes mellitus tipo 2. La línea se inició hace unos 8-10 años desde Nefrología CUN contando con Endocrinología (Dr Javier Escalada) e integrando colaboraciones de otras áreas, de grupos básicos y también de clínicos de nefrología del ámbito publico.

El grupo está formado por especialistas de la Clínica Universidad de Navarra (CUN) y del Hospital Universitario de Navarra (HUN). Está dirigido por dos Investigadores Responsables, Nuria García Fernandez (CUN) y Joaquín Manrique Escola (HUN). Está formado por clínicos que además de nefrólogos incluyen, según los proyectos, cardiólogos y endocrinólogos, además de investigadores del Laboratorio de Imagen de la CUN y de Enfermedades Cardiovasculares CIMA.
